I bought carrots and cabbage to can hopefully tomorrow, and I was contacted by a neighbor who I hadn't heard from in quite awhile who is going to BUY milk and eggs and cheese from me, so I can take that $$ and maybe invest in a bucket calf to raise for meat to can. Am STILL trying to find the time to read the book I bought on small-scale grain raising, but things are crazy here. Maybe tomorrow. Made a list of more prep items I need to pick up in the city on my next trip.

Did some reading. I went to the library and checked out a series of books from Yankee Magazine called "The lost arts." Everything is in it. It kind of reminds me of Carl Emerey's books. The thing that I like about this series is that's it's all geared towards stuff in New England. There's even a section about tapping Sugar Maples and making your own syrup. I'm really happy that you are finding some clients Pat!!

Woohoo!!..excellent Pat!!. A couple more of those and your milk overload will be lessened a bit. I told the Amish lady about our purchase of the churn today, she said she would start setting aside cream for me, I only pay $1 a gallon for milk, so I doubt she will charge me an arm and a leg for cream. I also get my eggs for $1 a dozen. They are really starting to get friendly since they know that I am trying to imitate their lifestyle to a degree. That is excellent CCM!! I can't seem to get enough good reading, I blaze through my Countryside and BWH in a day, and then have nothing for 7 weeks.. We have a lot of Maples on our property, and one of my friends, Dave, the guy we camped with and stay with when we go to NH, knows all about it, he has been sugaring with his family since he was big enough to carry a sap bucket. When we get settled in, maybe I can talk him into doing a demo up at the land and you can come up.

That sounds like a blast! I've always been fascinated with the process of sugaring.
I've been going to the library about every two weeks to get new books. One second After has been checked out every time I go, but that is my next book!

Found 2 old Foxfire books in a box out in the storage unit so I put them with my preps.

Hopefully your churn will arrive before the weekend, and you and Lynn can have some fun this weekend. Just remember to rinse the butter over and over again till the water runs clear - it helps your butter 'keep" longer.

I picked up a few more buckets at Wally World yesterday. I filled one with vac sealed instant oatmeal packs. Haven't done anything with the second one yet. I also picked up some odds and ends of canned goods and two more cases of pint sized jars. I hope to can some meat this weekend-providing there's a good sale anyway.

I finished painting the bee hive, so I will be ready in spring to get my bees. I also finished restoration on the butter churn.

I bought 15 lbs of boneless chicken breasts this afternoon which I plan on canning up this weekend. Found a few more cans of pumpkin more reasonably priced so I am going to make some pumpkin butter. I picked enough peppers (hot) this afternoon so I plan on doing some pickling.
Have to take the oldest dog to the vets tomorrow as he has another ear infection. I don't think they had him on antibiotics long enough the last time. He's getting old enough now that he needs a good solid round of medication to get it to cleared up.
Next month now that the utility bills seem to be going down I plan on putting back some hefty amounts of food. I have a feeling about the next few months...but that could just be me.

I have a bad feeling about winter, I think there are going to be people realizing how much trouble we are in. If riots start, I am fairly defensible here, NH would be a lot better, but we can face anything that comes for a while, we have heat, food and water, and lots of ammo ;D

It looks like my plan to sell our big house (that we owe big $ on ) and pay cash for a much smaller house isn't gonna happen....barring a miracle. We've got only a little over a month left on our contract with the Realtor to sell the house....and we're not seeing much action. So....in preparation for riding "it" out here...I placed a big order with Emergency Essentials this evening. About $2000 worth of very long term storage food. It should bring our food supply to something like 18 months. I'm also adding to our ammunition supply weekly. So I've got the "Bullets, Beans, and Bibles" pretty well covered.

Well...the order from Emergency Essentials arrived today. Geez, I did NOT realize I was ordering one half TON of stuff!! The order was 1043 lbs shipped! My back is painfully aware right now though!! ;D
I was amazed that with an order that large they were absolutely perfect! Nothing extra and nothing missing. I have no financial interest in them whatsoever....but I would recommend them!
