I had quite a berry patch this year, those blackberries were delicious, in fact we just made homemade ice cream with a big bag of them in it a week or so ago. The best thing I did with them was make blackberry ice cream sauce with Chambord in it, WOW!!! That was wicked good.

That sounds good!!! We make ice cream about once a month, next time we'll have to throw some blackberries in it... although, our blackberry plant isn't producing yet. We planted it this fall so it will probably not produce for another season or two.

Well I guess with all of the wonderful Economic news-NOT-it's time to ramp up the shopping trips again. I let things slide during the holidays and have been dipping into my stuff for the last few months. I know it helps rotate but I am not helping the stockpile.
BJ's here I come!

Ours is gone too. Sam's is still here. Figures. Most of the stuff I use I get in the bulk section at wally world. saves me a 50 mile round trip.
Went down to the woodlot this am, and saw that the maples I chunked up were checking nicely. Gotta go buy a new chain for the Husqy. Touched a rock the last time out. It was almost junk anywho. Will pickup a few files while I'm there. Bought some K100 the other day for my small engine gas cans. Supposed to help the ethanol not wreck stuff, we shall see. Planning a day with my family and friends to kill my roosters. Gonna park my short bus by the old winnebago for a wind block. We're gonna skin 'em, smoke 'em, can .em, eat 'em up yum. Ordering heirloom field corn seed soon, so I can feed my critters. Also will plant some small patches of grains. We found out that chicken grain in bulk is doable now that we have more broken chest freezers for storage. 2 for layer mash, 2 for grower for this springs broilers. Gotta build one more chicken house for the broilers, this time on a 24' camper trailer frame with a mesh floor and greenhouse hoops for the cover. Should be a great project. We have some 48" electric netting thats 12 volt to keep out the 4 legged lovers of chicken. Just pull it ahead every other day in the cow pasture. I think I'll keep busy. Been gazing at all these seed catalogs. Got 3 more yesterday. Over 20 so far.

I started working from home today for at least one day a week. Maximizing time on the homestead.

wish a few of my bosses would have stayed home......
Its 3 degrees out right now. just watered my birds and gave them some cracked corn. I'll water them at least 4 times in this cold. Hard to drink ice. Was gonna can some ground beef today....might yet if i get the ambition to go to brothers and grab some. As my neighbors would say,"It's so cold it aint even funny." Wha? Myself, I've never thought any cold was funny.

Thet cold askeered my woodpile...
We had 5 here last night, stove still worked fine and we were plenty warm, I do know that the next major project is finishing replacing the upstairs windows, then strip the siding put house wrap up and reside and we will be then able to keep the indoors comfortable with just the stove, no matter how cold it gets. The drafts still bother me, but with the house 105 years old and never wrapped, I can understand why.
