Thanks for that report Fred, good companies should be highlighted, as good service is something we all desire. I may even send them advertising literature for the newspaper, as I want to promote companies with a good reputation. Hope you back feels better, I always find a nice long soak in a hot tub does wonders.

Going at lunch today to get some brackets for the shelving in the basement. I hope ACE has what I want. Just checked the tracking on my dehydrator, and it should be here on Thursday. I'm making a list of what to get at the grocery store so I can get this baby cranking! Bought ten pound of organic carrots at the grocery store yesterday afternoon. 1.00 per pound. I'm going to dry some and put some into the split pea soup that I plan to can up this weekend. If there is some left over I'll just can them up by themselves.

Lets see, this morning I unhooked my redneck solar collecter and hooked up my woodtove water heater. Also redneck made. Been using them 3 years now, no probs. Not bad for a sawdust maker. Right now I'm sitting in the sun getting overrun with ladybugs. It tickles. Wonder if i have nits or somethin'? Most ladys dont swarm one me unless their cold. Must be it. Next rain day i'll can acorn squish.

I ordered a few cans of powdered whole eggs from Emergency Essentials. I think I figured that it's about 17 dozens eggs. Since I don't have chickens yet I don't want to be caught not being able to bake stuff. I'll order a few more cans in the next few weeks plus some other #10 cans of stuff like butter powder.
My Mom called a little while ago completely freaking out about the price of food at the store. She said a tube of toothpaste at CVS was 8.00! Here we go boys and girls....Anyway we had a little talk about stuff-and even though they have always had a full pantry she is wanting to REALLY buy a lot now. We talked about QE2 and other things that are going to lead this country into hyperinflation. Well needless to say Mom is pulling her food dehydrator out of the closet. I assured her that we were alright and that we were working on the stocking up thing. This is all good. I feel better that she is now totally on board.

Going shopping monday. Gonna grow the stash by $200. A few more cases of veggies, paper goods, bulk sugar and flours, more salt, etc. Bought jackie clays newest book, got the emergency preparedness book with it. Been tweakin ever since. My problem is where to put it all. I am gonna block my huge bed up 3" to fit cases of quart jars underneath. Gonna pick up more bulk ammo, too.

Lynn and I decided no frivolous gifts for Christmas, we are giving home made gifts, and stocking our pantry with bulk food.

I only buy Christmas presents for the Really young kids. I have this thing about Jesus. Punch santa in his bulbous nose and put the easter bunny on a spit with garlic and rosemary and spray on some white wine.....the commercialization (sp?) of those holidays gets me a wee bit worked up. Could ya tell? :-)

I agree with all of you all, I am going to be making most of the Christmas gifts I give this year. Including a travel coffee mug for my daughter, a bread bowl for my wife, for my son I will probably be doing some shopping at the army surplus... he loves that kind of stuff.

Yeah, the last few years we have only bought gifts for the kids. We do a secret Santa thing with the in laws, but other than that we spend our Christmas money on good food and wine and we enjoy the time spent together.
I spent the weekend in the basement. I vacuumed the entire thing. In the food pantry area I even put down a large area rug. That side has been paintned with dri lock and then painted with floor paint over that so I don't have anything moisture problems. It feels so nice down there now. Much better. I also totally rearranged (again) the food storage shelves. I have it all arranged like a grocery store. A vegi section fruit section, protein section and condiments and dairy section. It makes it easier to see what I have. I was a little anal about all of the labels facing forward also. It just looks nicer. ;D

Julie, welcome to the OCD club, maybe you hadn't thought about it, but you have it, and those of us that do always seem to gravitate toward each other. Glad to have another kindred spirit, once you accept it as reality, you can really use it to simplify your life.

May be I do tend to lean that way, but I have crossed that bridge before and I continually fight against 4 other people who do not have the same inclinations. Most times I have learned to let it go. It may drive me crazy but I have learned to ignore certain things because I can't do it all-if I didn't have to work it would be a different story.

Just got back from town. 100# flour, 100# sugar. Went to the chinese rest. And bought 4 five gallon buckets with gasketed lids for $10. Had a pupu while there. 5 times eating out in a year, getting spoiled. Ive read to freeze flour, also to store with bay leaves. Gonna leave it in the bags and hope for the best. Just use the sifter before baking, just in case!
