Martin-they want to try that sticker thing here too-you seriously need to find a good burn barrel!!! I told Town Hall that if they tried implementing that that I would start burning my garbage and so would everyone else. The Portuguese here are very tight with their money so to speak-it would get burned or buried in a pit. Yeah, it's $2 for a sticker, but we only have one bag per month, I guess i can live with that for now. I'd rather have the choice to pay the $2 for the sticker as opposed to NO choice in higher taxes. Good thing is, for recycling, they'll freely take almost anything paper, metal, plastic or glass...as long as it's relatively clean...and there's no need to sort. And no...the sticker didn't fall off!! DARN!!! LOL ~Martin

Copper sulfate or compost tea?
According to the State guys here, the '09 blight originated at a huge greenhouse operation down south, I think it was Georgia. 3 truckloads headed up the east coast delivering to Kmart, Wally World, lowes, and the cheepo depot. It was discovered the next day. I sprayed, cut back, and finally burned all my beautiful maters. We went to a seminar, and they said of the 4 stores, 1 was a dink, and kept selling them for 3 days after they knew. I took him aside and asked him which one. It was Kmart. Bastids.
Had a fun night....thunder bolts and lightning..power went off, lanterns came out. Kinda funny, me ordering that solar light. Maybe if I'd used express shipping....lol

Late Blight-Fantastic-not too far from me-just across the pond...... So far my tomatoes look fantastic-they better stay that way! I saw those storms go through on radar Rick! They were good ones! I got a batch of green beans blanched and dehydrated-have a ton more to do today. Be back-the dogs went on an apparent toot.

Car is in the shop, borrowed bro's truck yesterday, but did I buy gas for the lawnmowers and garden tractors? Sometimes I wonder about me.

Yikes! A gas range with a piezo ignition, rather than a pilot, is DANGEROUS!!! We were out for about an hour this morning, when we got back, all I could smell was gas! The big dog must of jumped up on the front of the range, when he did that he pushed in the knob and it turned past where it does the clicking to ignite, filling the place with gas!!! Good thing we were only gone for an hour!!! ~Martin

You probably read about our dog trying to burn the place down. We are seriously considering having a sprinkler system installed in the new house when built. It is an option and good piece of mind, especially when your number one source of heat is wood.

Geeeze Martin! How scary was that? ?? Thank God you got home when you did! Just saw my MIL off for her next two rounds of surgery......A month probably in Mass General. Stinky. T-storms are supposed to roll in today-we could use the rain. So I guess it's inside work. Maybe I'll go cut some more kale before it starts.

I have three appointments for the paper this morning and then the July edition is put to bed. I already started laying out the August issue. Sue Burns, Sarah Hurlburt and Bill Felker ( Poor Will's ) have their stuff all the way to October finished, so it let's me get a jump on layout. We are still dry here, we had a passing 10 minute thunderstorm yesterday, but it did nothing as far as making the ground wet. We need a day or two soaker. I have to trim up my mint today, so I will have a dehydrator full of broccoli and then mint.

Geeeze Martin! How scary was that? ?? Thank God you got home when you did! Yeah, I'm terrified of fire anyway....I unplug everything when we go somewhere....but I wasn't expecting this. I had one of those ubiquitous wall warts/AC adaptors expand literally like a black balloon when I was away once. It's a wonder that didn't burst into flames. I'm terrified of those things now! The stove deal....that's just really scary....on these new stoves the gas is on full blast just past where it's supposed to ignite...then you have to turn the knob all the way on for low....opposite of the old pilot stoves....making them extremely dangerous! I guess I'll have to get a set of those knob guards intended for little kids. ~Martin
