I have to trim up my mint today, so I will have a dehydrator full of broccoli and then mint. What mints are you growing? Here I've only got common peppermint and Kentucky Colonel. I have a greater selection up on the mountain. ~Martin

Woman faces 93 days in jail for planting garden in front yard... www.theagitator.com/2011/07/07/does-michelle-obama-know-about-this/This clearly illustrates how screwed up priorities are in the so-called "free" country!! It's Evil! Pure Evil! Vanity before liberty and utility is nothing but pure evil!!! The "rulers" responsible for regulating and enforcing such stupid laws deserve to die a slow agonizing death by starvation!!!! ~Martin

Martin, I was reading the comments below that and they included a link to his city e-mail address. I decided it needed to be done. Here's what I sent him:
Mr. Rulkowski -
I've looked everywhere for a dictionary that lists "common" as a synonym of "suitable". I can't find one in my collection, online, or in my local Border's bookstore. Could you please give me the title and definition of the one you are using to force that rebellious Bass family into line. I have some people here that I want to force to accept my personal will as law and that could really help.
Have you forgotten what country you are living in? Did NOBODY in your family raise Victory gardens during WWII? Don't you know any survivors of the Great Depression personally? Maybe you should visit a couple in an old folks home and get a little education, because you obviously are not using the one you got in college!

The Amish greenhouse that I go to didn't have any either, but she told me to wait a minute and she went up to her garden and brought me down 6 sprigs with roots wrapped in a wet cloth. I took them home and planted them, they fill the bed now, I am thinking they must be common mint, but it is great for what I wanted.

You go mike! Awesome letter! We have people who try stuff like that here-fortunately the locals do not let many if any newbies on the boards that control that stuff-when they do they get shot down big time. The year rounders won't put up with it-we call them "wash-a-shores". turds. My MIL's surgery seemed to go really well. It only took an hour-the Dr. seemed pleased that they should be able to go to phase two on Friday next week. I may need to take a quick few day stay myself next week-My symptoms have not really abated that much, and after a month of being sick, my doc wants to give me IV treatments next week. No biggie. It's just that they give me a level of medicine that's not safe to give at home...whatever-I just want my Summer back!

Get better Julie, I'm praying for you and your MIL...
Tonight my wife, son and I went to my wife's mother and her husbands house and we moved an 8X12 roof that they wanted to get rid of. It's now sitting on the trailer in my front yard.

Goat building? I'll pray for your MIL, Julie...
I'm friends with Take Back Urban Homesteading on Farcebook, and have been following this Michigan garden BS. I wrote a letter myself, just not quite as friendly as Mikes. It included "It's COMMON to have a lawn full of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and weed killers, this is considered acceptable to people like you. Heaven forbid someone have edible landscaping to help feed their family ON PRIVATE PROPERTY...." And then it went downhill from there. I told him to come to Maine so that I could use his tie for a handle and shake some common sense into him. Not verified, but I was told that emails have passed 25,000 so far. That's a good start.
The gardens are screaming here. Hear that?

You guys are great on those E-Mails! Andy-did you guys get any of that dust storm? I think I picked about another 5 lbs of green beans this morning. Getting ready to put them into the dehydrator. It poured buckets last night, Yea-no watering for a few days! Its going to be 80 degrees today-things should shoot to the moon in the garden. I have little green tomatoes starting already and tiny little cucumbers. I think tomorrow I might pull my beets and can some up. I want to get a round of white turnips in. I also noticed the crop of potatoes is starting to come up Happy me!

Man, everyone's gardens are doing great, that is so cool. My corn is over 4' high(in Maine the rule of thumb is "waist high by the 4th of July"), and the peas! Supposed to be 24", but these babies are gut button high, and loaded with peas. Jack and the pea stocks? If there were less peas, I would think too much manure... as the painter Bob Ross would have said- "We don't make mistakes, we just have happy accidents." Poured buckets last night, and supposed to be cloudy am, some sun pm. Went to visit a just- retired friend of mine last evening. He sold his house in town and has moved to his camp out in the woods. I brought him all my "alternative energy" info., and he was stoked. I guess 8 months there, and 4 in a condo in Florida. Good for him. He's been building a killer 4'x8' outside fireplace, and its his first attempt at masonry. Its wicked cool, I'll take pics when its done.

Jules, do whatever it takes, but get yourself better. I know what you mean. this enforced light duty is killing me. I can't ride motorcycles, I can't go kayaking, and I can't work out in the yard. BUT, I am getting a lot of college work done.
Want to know how strict she is? Cindy just left for the farmer's market. I'm not allowed to go, too much walking.
