Jules, The night of the dust storm in Phoenix we had a similar dust storm and then rain. At our house there were 77 mile an hour winds, the rain was coming down so hard that visibility could be measured in feet and not yards. We got lucky, and only had a few shingles damaged on the roof. Other people had cheap metal and rubber maid sheds completely destroyed. One neighbor lost the awning that was connected to his house....

Glad there was no real damage Andy, the garden ok? I remember when we were in Phoenix a couple years ago traveling out to Apache Junction, you could see a definite difference between the people who were born and raised there and transplants in how they built their houses. The people that know what can happen use a LOT of concrete in their construction.

Yeah, the natives build in a manner that will stand up to dust storms, micro bursts and dry heat. I have to baby my roof along until I get all the bills paid off then I can put money back to re-roof the house.
The roof we got yesterday is gonna be a goat cover, milking area, I just have to figure out where I want it and how to get it up on the posts when I set them. I'm the only one strong enough to lift the roof so it's probably gonna be a huge feat of Redneck Ingenuity.
Rick the US Border is about as safe as a blond virgin in Detroit at midnight.

About the border: There are a lot of holes in the border. I can take you to 3 dirt roads that cross the border where folks can come and go at will. I know a several folks who live south of the Border Patrol Check points (which are unconstitutional) and recently the family and I have been driving down past the check points for various reasons. A lot of times when we go through they're closed, other times when the check points are open the bp officers look bored and just wave you through. It's a classic waste of time and resources.
In conclusion and to answer your question for real: The border is not safe at all, the cartels are pushing north and will continue to until we get serious about protecting our borders.

But......Jammit Incompitano say's the border is safe. Wait....do you think she may be full of sh!t? Nah, never happen...
So, while we were visiting my friends out in the woods checking out his stone fireplace he's building friday night..... back here all hell was breaking loose. The nay- boor across the street had been arguing with her two lovely sons. Why they come here to fight is beyond me. I want to argue with someone I do so inside... Anyway, she apparently SHOT AT HER OWN KIDS. Yesterday morning I'm over the wall in the big gardens (where the bullets and plastic car parts landed) and S, her daughter and Z come over and told me there is some jerk blocking one of my driveways. Pistol in pocket, as always, I go over and raise my arms up like WTF? Then I notice its a brandy new Suburban with tinted windows. I was like RU- ROH Rorge, thinking they were coming to visit me. Nah, just a statie, waiting for back up. He gets off the phone and waves me over. All three women run over and start yapping. I limped up behind them and cleared my throat, they got the idea and went back to playing with flowers. I say" You here for me, or the lovely neighbor?" He goes "The neighbor, is that a bad thing?" and I said "Keep her as long as ya want!" and back to work I went stringing up maters. 45 minutes later 5 cruisers pull in, 3 of them dressed like swat, and in to the barn they go. They come out 5 minutes later with her in cuffs, and this put a HUGE smile on my face. I made sure she saw me, and didnt that piss her off, standing there grinning like an idiot with a gun on my side. To make a long story somewhat shorter, I got me a lawn chair and an iced tea and got a nice front row seat to the sideshow from hell. They started coming out with guns, grow lites and weed. They hauled her off, but she was home 5 hours later. Hopefully she'll be in court tomorrow AM. I posted about making Smores on FB the other nite....at that same time she was making trips in her truck from the barn to the woods. 5 of them. I thought LE should know about that, so I told them about the loud truck trips. THEY NEVER WENT DOWN BACK. <sigh> Ahhhh, the quiet country life, eh?

Wow Rick-sounds like my neighborhood at times I have enough berries this morning to make a few batches of Jam. I'm gonna do one strawberry and one mixed-Raspberry and strawberry. Then I have a few beets to pickle up for Mother. Jimmy's mother's surgery went awesome! Only an hour long and they liked what they saw this time-had to take part of her shoulder blade-just thin slices-ouch- but they are pretty confident. Yea- She didn't get sick from the anesthesia this time either-real comfortable afterwards which is huge. Providing the test results come back good, she is having the muscle transplant on Friday followed by some radiation-then she's off to the races! Mike, it seems we all have our crosses to bear as far as health goes huh? The medicine can make me real grouchy-James calls it "Roid-Rage"...funny-I think of Ahnold-may be I should go work out-may be I would get all muscly like.....

Rick!!...just wait a while, around near September or early October, I would mosey down back looking fer deer mind you, and see if there is any crops that need harvesting. Just a thought. Found one of thos at peak harvest stage, my buddies and I had an awesome winter. Lot's of smoke coming from the bobhouses and about 1/2 of it was from the woodstoves. Good times for sure. Good to have a front row seat when neighbors that wouldn't even make good fertilizer are carted off.
Julie, so happy your MIL came through in good shape. Now let's get you back to 100% and then....BRING IN THE CHICKENS!!!!

Glad to hear that the outlook is good on the MIL, Julie. Wayne, these LE guys are smart. I'm thinking they put a gps tracker on that truck. They were in it for a good 1/2 hour. We shall see. Been hoeing already, pulling what few weeds there were. Gonna be mowing most of the day. Limp- along cassidy and the dumbass kid... And Julie, roid rage is real, take it from a guy that bounced in bars for years. And FYI, what good are all them muskels, if when you show a lady your......doohinkus, they snicker? Nah, never mind that...

Andy, I'm glad everything is OK after all of that. You folks in AZ sure have been through a lot lately! I made two batches of jam yesterday-took me all day-really frustrating-but that's OK-ended up with 15 half pints. Dehydrated a bunch more beans too. Packed my bags last night for my stay at the big house on the hill, lol. so if you don't hear from me for a few days you know where I am. I'm sure I'm gonna be bored to tears so I am bringing a notebook and my canning cook books....hmmmm may be someone will bring me a laptop?
