The other day we saw those same jars for almost 2 bucks more! Must be the extra shipping/ gouging charge, huh?

Gonna attempt to buy 10# of burger today and can it. Great rainy day project. If I cant afford it, I'll thaw some out and can that with onions peppers and shroomies. I wanna try one or two half pints with salsa added, along with some cumin and chili powder....for nachos.

I'm sitting and doing raining day stuff too Rick-this weather is driving me crazy! I just canned up 5 qts of clam juice, and six qts of lobster stock-just waiting for the canner to depressurize now-been kicking around you tube watching videos-OMG I love this guy's set up for his chicken coop! He obviously spent crazy money on the mini barn but someone gave him the kennel fencing. Since I already have the mini barn....hmmmmm! The automatic opener is just laziness-wouldn't do that..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZwZNvnv0Gk&NR=1

Rick-the #10 can sealer thingy is like one that I saw online. Does your church have one of those on hand? That's almost as good as going to the cannery!

Nice coop! He mentioned "His carpenter" a few times. You are correct, he spent a TON of money on that. I have an access door as well to the nesting boxes, but mines on the gable end under a 14" overhang. I also have a door on the inside to keep the ladies from sleeping in the nesting boxes and poopin the place up. Given the choice, I'd lay in 2" of shavings instead of a perch. The hardware cloth at the windows is genius. he can still wash the wondows, too.
And finally, yes! thats the canner I have access to. I would LOVE to have one someday.

When I did the Easter trip to Wally World I grabbed a tote to put the various mountain house meals in a bag that I have gotten. I figure it would be a good bug out tote to grab if we had to-even tho we are trying out best to bug IN. I also grabbed another big canister of powdered Gatorade. Figure it would be important during the Summer months. They are STILL out of their food grade buckets-Grrrrrrrr. My fav. cashier said that they fly out of the store as soon as they come in-gee I wonder why? He always teases me about buying them, and I just explain it away-from "hey we're going fishing-we need chum buckets"-to dog food storage-to gardening etc. I told him they were safe to put anything in-that he should buy a few too-that he would amazed the uses for 5 gallon buckets, lol.

Oh, and here's the part that I find HILARIOUS.....This duck sauce is from China...the buckets I have are from Michigan. I guess they want lead- free food. lol. China actually buys a finished product from the USA. Shocking.

Food grade buckets, yea, have a friend who has a friend that owns a small restaurant and they buy mayonnaise, catsup, and mustard in them, prolly more. Great resealable lids too. Got about 20, gonna plant some stuff the birds and squirrels like so much, and put 'em on the screen porch. They are 4 gal. and for freee !
Powdered Gatorade, hadn't thought of that one either, thanks Jules. Goood stuph for dehydration, or upset tummys too ! When my son was a baby we had a terrible bout with salmonella, and GATORADE is the only thing he didn't throw up, including the only medicine available at that time. He lived on it for about two weeks. It had just come out then too. Dr. said if it had not been for the Gatorade, he might very well not have survived it.

Wow Rick-thank God for Gatorade! Yeah, it's good for that stuff! I try to keep a lot of powdered mixes downstairs-makes water more tolerable if that's pretty much all you have to drink.

Worked in the garden from sunup till sundown. Round two will begin soon, and I will be a happy dude. Made lots of mistakes in round one and this one should be much better, and twice as big.
