Ohh, just jabbering. It's all in the gunpowder thread. A few years ago I sold all of my guns that were really capable of supplying meat in a SHTF situation (or hunting), so now I must start all over, and with only one, and this time with VERY limited funds, but we're moving. LOL. That's all.

Well, let's see what we've been up to-
James is replacing the fencing on the vegi garden. We used a cheap fencing last year and the bunnies ate through it-so we bought heavy duty galvanized fencing and are working on that. He's burying the fencing abut six inches to try to keep them from digging under it.
Mom and Dad went to Bj's so they picked up for us- 20 lbs of Jasmine rice 2 large jars of peanut butter huge case of T.P. More Instant Breakfast-I had gone back to Amazon to order the case like I had done before and it had TRIPLED in price a case of tuna fish 2 large jugs of Ocean Spray 1- 7 gallon water container-that came from Walmart-they have never had these before so I will get more-it was in the camping section but it had a preparedness label on it which I thought was cool. Another food safe bucket for my powdered milk packets. It's full so that makes two-I need yet another one. bag of yukon seed potatoes case of 1/2 Gallon canning jars-for the jasmine rice. More shelving brackets for downstairs-now I just need the shelves cut.

So fencing alone won't keep one out of a garden/hen house. But I tried an idea I had read somewhere. I cut left over fencing into 12" strips and stapled it to the ground on the dog side of the fence. Then I covered it with mulch. When the 'Dale got to digging he didn't like getting his nails pulled by the wire so he went looking for somewhere softer. A surprise benefit, now he won't dig anyplace that I put down mulch. He has come to equate mulch to "no-dig" zones. I bet it would work for rabbits too.

That's a good idea! We could still do that-he's only about 1/4 of the way done.

Yea, I've seen several ppl do that, just fold over (on the outside) about a foot or two flat or just below the surface of the ground, and the diggin' out/in games are over ! Been real fortunate, had many a dog, but never a digger.
Got a little more done on my "protein harvesting tool" today, almost done. I think she's gonna do me proud.

I like that! "protein harvesting tool" Good one. Have I mentioned where I get my food- safe buckets? Chinese food places have oodles of them. I buy them for 2 bucks each, with a gasketed lid. Most say duck sauce on them. Going to plant an arse load of beans this year, namely yellow eyes, navy, and jacobs cattle. Maybe a 1/2 garden of small red kidneys. Also looking to plant 1 garden of (hull- less) naked wheat, which needs to be netted(birds), but in a 4' wide garden will be easy with the hoops we make from 1/2" conduit. Naked wheat in a strip garden! Think I'll charge admission. Dayum, my mind is a turrible thing.

Ric, have you done any canning at your cannery? Or have you checked out the canner for you to do it at home?

No, Julie, I havent. I'd like to, for sure. I'd really like to for sugar and flour, and maybe powdered milk.....although I will have goats by July I hope. They have one at the church I "infrequent", so I've been told. I've been doing the 5 gallon bucket thing so far. My biggest problem is storage space. I jack my bed up any higher I'll need a step ladder! Not sure if that stuff would be okay in a shed or not. I hate to spend the time and money and have it get ruined over my ignorance.

Cam and I went to Wally World this morning-Geez, the prices have gone up! Some things like the 25 lbs of sugar have gone up two dollars. I bought one anyway cause canning season is coming. Bought another case of pint sized jars too. I try to buy a case per week this time of year. Bought a shelving rack which the little guy helped me put together. I got the downstairs pantry rearranged with the new shelving. Now I've got some more room! Didn't buy much of anything else besides the normal groceries-except for the Super Soaker shot gun that the little guy got all glassy eyed over....yeah OK I'm a sucker-but he's a good kid and he actually helped me clean the house yesterday.

Mo-uummmm, paaa-leeeeeeeze? Very cool. Canning jars are nuts, like $2.50 more than last fall. And yes, LDS will help outsiders, but I'm not one.....really. Except for the drinking, smoking, caffeine..... and I won't take a vow of chastity. Oops. lol. They still like me though. Really nice people, they think I'm a diamond in the rough, or is it coal? lol

He didn't even ask-just gave me that puppy dog look and said "I REALLY like this." Done, lol.
I looked at my receipt-the pint sized reg mouth jars were 7.97. I don't remember what I paid last year to be honest. The powdered milk went up about .50.
The nearest cannery is in Worcester Rick-It's a good three hours from here. LDS prices have gone up too-although their stuff is still cheaper.
