Damn, Sorry Martin, we will ask for prayers for strength and comfort. We're just sick over it! They were heading to their monthly garden club meeting and lunch. Gert and her husband would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary tomorrow. ~Martin

Hey Wayne... What seeds did you order from High Mowing? Have you ever tried the Little Leaf cucumber? ~Martin I did not need a lot this year, I have been saving seed and also swapping with some Amish friends. The only items I got from High Mowing was Amish Paste tomato, Marketmore 76 Cucumber, Midnight Lightening Zuchinni, Howden Pumpkin (the ground hogs got my pumpkins last year, this year they will be eliminated with extreme prejudice) and Katahdin potatoes and All-Blue potatoes as well as my Red Norlands. My garlic is already up about a foot!

I've been carrying a heavy duty tow/snatch strap in the truck for several years now, ever since the first time DD put her Jeep in a ditch in a snow. Haven't used it since. Well, yesterday I used it. I wrapped it around the trunks of two holly bushes and one mostly dead azalea and snatched them out of the ground with the truck. The resulting open space will need to be cleared of that English Ivy Cindy had growing there and will become the pumpkin patch.

I am working on Lynn to let me cut them down.

I don't have a lot of landscaping, so I'm not pulling anything out, however anything I plant will only be edible.
I have a few mesquites a hedge row on the south side and another in the north west corner. I'm thinking of planting a row of thorned blackberries along the north fence to provide privacy and some protection from two legged coyotes.

Taking a lunch/recovery break. Got to get serious about Weight Watchers this spring/summer. Getting old is bad enough. Being old AND fat sucks!
Yesterday I demolished the long side of the old fence. There were three 2x4 posts in the ground. I can tell which one I did vs the two that my DD and SIL did. Mine took longer to dig out of the ground than the other two combined. Damn, I do good work!
Anyway, this morning I have relocated that 4'x8'x'4' pair of compost bins. Nope, they aren't separate. Had to be moved as a unit. Sure was hard. Again, I build good solid stuff! Just finished dismantling the shorter leg of the fence. Still have to dig out the three posts. Sure hope it was the kids that sank those posts.

I have finished taking apart and removing all of the old garden.
One of my favorite sayings from Dad was always, "Work smarter, not harder." I got to those last three post and not a single one of them would even rock in it's hole. I was not looking forward to trying to dig them out. Fortunately for me, not all addictions are bad.
I may have mentioned before that I am hopelessly addicted to tools. (Cindy will tell you, I can barely do a job without 'having to buy' at least one tool.) I dug out one spade deep around each of those posts and then I went in and got my reciprocating saw. I cut each one off as far down into the hole as I could get the saw. Using a demo blade (which will cut both wood and nails) I didn't even have to worry about the blade jabbing into the dirt. All three of them are going to be located under new raised beds, so there was no need to dig them out. Wish I'd thought of that yesterday. I could probably have done the same with those posts. Ah well, live and learn.
Meanwhile, scrap is burning in the burn barrel. It'll probably take me two days to burn it all.

Doing it Johnny Cash style, "one piece at a time". Got the other gate post sunk this morning. Then unexpected company showed up and we spent time doing a "show and tell" with the chickens. they left and about halfway thorough the next post he called and asked me to join them for lunch at noon. Finished the second post of the day and then showered for lunch. just got back home. Have to sit around and wait for the Harley to be delivered from the dealer's storage. By then it'll be 3pm. Going to see Travis Tritt in concert tonight and have to meet Cindy at 6pm. No sense in going out and getting all sweaty and dirty again.
Hmmm, maybe I'll look for Travis on youtube ans see what I can expect tonight. Hey, Cindy bought the tickets, not me.

Our pastor was a Harley rider, so it was the subject of a lot of fun, jokes and good natured ribbing over the years. ~Martin (refraining from spouting his favorite Harley jokes) ;D
