Who knew? The powdery mildew "resistant" zucchini gave me a very pleasant surprise. I usually pull the zucchini once it eventally succumbs to PM...well..this year...because other things were more pressing I never got around to pullin' it...so.....after while...it started growing new healthy leaves and went on to produce several fruits!!! ~Martin

I avoided powdery mildew until recently. Cold and rain do not mix well, lol but the same thing is happening to one of my surviving plants-I have ONE more zucchini coming-we'll see if it makes it-starting to wrap up the garden here. Just a few things left. While James is landscaping on Fridays we are getting free shrubs and stuff which I am heeling into the vegi garden until next year's planting. More screen from the neighbors. The less they see of my food area the better.

Well, I tried my best but all it does is rain, I have lost all of my tomatoes to blight, good thing I had a good year last season. My bell peppers on the other hand are producing like crazy!

Out here we're still going strong, the tomato's are slowing down and we're still terrorized by tomato worms. We replanted cucumber and they're growing well. We have watermelon on the vine, radishes growing, broccoli, beets, lettuce, spinach, all of Trudy's herbs are growing, onions oh and the carrots are growing... last but not least is the PUMPKINS the vines are huge and we're getting a bunch of gourds on the vine....

Very cool Andy! I'm trying to wrap the garden up-I canned up 7 qts of butternut squash over the weekend and canned two different kinds of green tomato pickles. My peppers are going crazy too but I don't know how red they will get before frost. I have a ton of eggplant coming too. My kale is still hanging on from the spring, lol. I will definitely plant that again next year. I have as much as I will need for the winter so the girls are getting leaves every day in their green treats. The herbs are still producing well too. I am facing a ton of dental work soon. The steroids I have been on are ruining my teeth-I have two abcesses and at least three cavities. I haven't had a cavity in years..... My mouth really hurts. I am on antibiotics but it is slow in stamping the infection out.

Ugh...I am so sorry for you Julie. I had a terrible time with teeth too and often went two or three days over a weekend before getting the antibiotics to kill the infection to then have an extraction done. Heck, I think I was alone supporting my oral surgeons family, I HATE dentists or anything to do with work on my mouth. I found that 4 Ibuprofen every six hours works as good as anything else - even codeine at fighting dental pain. You couldn't do it long term, but it does work till the antibiotics kill the infection.
Hope you feel better soon.

Julie, I hate dental work... I hope through it all the pain is bearable and fleeting.

I found a bottle of cough syrup with codeine for my ouchies last night-worked really good but I can't take it during the day. Low and behold, dry tea bags have worked great! I went online and was reading home remedies for abcesses and that's one thing that almost everyone said worked to draw out the infection and help with the pain. Yeehaw! It's starting to work! I'm going to get clove oil at lunch. That was the other thing that they recommended. I know this works because when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, a got the dreaded dry socket-I remember the oral surgeon putting clove oil in the socket to deaden the nerve. I think my health food store has it. Dang, mouth pain makes you nuts! I know you guys can concur! Thanks for letting me bitch, lol.

I always keep a bottle of sealed Oil of Clove for SHTF, we also have an opened bottle that I used if in extreme pain, just make sure you kill the infection, clove oil will kill the nerve, but not the infection and that can lead to other problems. The nerve is telling you there is a problem, the clove oil is telling the nerve, "got the message now shit down and shut up"

I will have to get another bottle for the medical tote for sure. I have been working on medical supplies lately. I've been taking Cipro since Monday cause I had it on hand but I am sure that the dentist will put me on something stronger tomorrow. My appt. is at 10:30. I wish I could take aspirin but I can't take any NSAIDs. Dentistry is one thing I have overlooked for SHTF. Time to get on it. We all have good teeth thank god but that may not last forever-especially with me

;DNo abcesses, lol!!!!!! I have a major sinus infection-which I think I have only had one other slight one in my life-It is so bad that it has inflamed the roots of my teeth-but no infection in my teeth- Yay! Just a lot more antibiotics and now I have a good excuse to take more of that decongestant with the codeine in it, lol. You have no idea how relieved I was

Yep I have had that too, even made an appointment with the oral surgeon at the first sign of pain, luckily he took x-rays and knew what was up.
