Yep! New girls are definitely laying, and putting the old girls to shame. Averaging 18 eggs a day, up from 7-8. A high of 22 one day.
Best part is that people are starving for real food. I mentioned that the girls were ankle deep in mud during lunch on Thursday and had to bring four dozen eggs to work on Friday. Opened up a whole new market with one simple statement.
Pulled the Google Earth photos of my neighbor's wood/brush lot today. Calculating fencing needs to put a small herd of goats on it next spring. I suggested it a year or two ago. He suggested it when we returned from vacation. Rental for the land? No, just get the brush out of there, and let his daughter and her kids "play" with them when they visit.

Sounds like a fair trade, and maybe another market opens up for goat milk and cheese.

.....maybe another market opens up for goat milk and cheese. The cheese and soap are Cindy's main interest in the goats. For me it's milk and meat. But we're going to start small. Probably no more than 3 goats, especially if I can get freshened does.

That's wonderful Martin!!! Last night we got somewhere between a half an inch and one inch of rain. So three nights this week we got some amount of rain, which is sorely needed. Today I'm working on an Etsy story for my pens and cutting boards, I'm hoping to have it up, with pictures and descriptions and then linked to Facebook by tonight. We really should put an ad up for online sales of your pens and cutting boards in the paper. Let me know what an ad costs and I'll talk it over with my partner (my dad). Here's the link to my shop. I have some items up and will be adding more in the next several days. www.etsy.com/shop/CreationsbyJandA

Andy....I thought we had been over this before, an ad costs you ZERO! You are a contributor to the paper, that gives you special perk and privileges. All we need are some pictures and the text info, Lynn will do the rest.

Ran some errands for the Newspaper first thing, did some writing, stacked a cord and a half of wood after lunch and then cooked burgers on the grill. Tonight, more work on the paper. October is coming together nicely.

I really wish I could find a person who would write strictly about foraging for wild edibles.

Hey folks. Been busier than a one legged guy in an ass kicking contest. We must have 400 pounds of maters ripening on every outside flat surface. Dried beans are getting pulled today. Heres one for the books: i was picking maters this morning, working my way down a row, and heard a noise directly behind me. 3' from me was a skunk in an unbaited havaheart trap, watching me pick. He never even stood up, just lied there curled up in a ball. Very cool and just as lucky. Gonna grab a tarp when the wind dies down this evening, so i can move him to a barrel of water for his swimming lesson. Too bad, but he shouldnt have eaten my corn, the bastid. Lost teack of the stuff we've canned so far, but def. A personal best gardening season so far. Winning. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Tomorrow my parents are taking half the inventory and selling at the farmers market and Trudy and I are taking the other half and selling at the gun show. Hopefully we can make enough sales to break even and even make a profit.

Finally got potatoes dug yesterday, now I have to do onions and garlic, the carrots are still in the ground too, but they can stay there if need be, I will just cover the bed with straw to keep it from freezing, fresh dug carrots on Christmas Day?...maybe

Nice looking potatoes Wayne! I've been crazy busy too as you know. I didn't even get to my canning projects today as I have been working outside as much as possible on the weekends. The weather is still decent but it is getting really chilly at night! In the mid to low 40's here lately I had to divide my bearded iris bed as I only had three blooms this year. Wow, were they in there tight! I think I ended up with 100 or so iris to replant tomorrow. The yard seems like it is kind of a mess. I'm working on it....... Rick-good to hear from you-I am glad you are well. Good Luck Andy! I hope you do well at the market!

That is great news Fred, tell her I said "Way to Go!"
We spent yesterday over in Bloomsburg helping her parents haul more stuff out of the basement, it is all cleaned out and they can now start putting what they have left away as soon as everything dries, the walls were all power washed and bleached so once dry they should be good to go. After church today I set about getting some Christmas Tree stuff ready. I primed the plywood board that will be the sign. and I got the racks half built. All that is left is to cut the braces and nail to bottoms to the tops and they are ready to go. Next will be the wreath rack. Colleen and Lynn did a lot of proof reading today for the stuff that is already here, so we are about half way through the October issue, hope to finish that this week, this issue is another step forward, we are adding Crosswords and Cryptograms, and will have them every month from now on.
