I'm all for it Rick-there are several online pharmacy sites where you can order without a prescription. If people are not able to buy stuff online, you can get certain antibiotics at the feed and grain store-yeah I know they are for animals-but will do in a pinch, yes? It's on my must do list.
Also, if you have a garden center near you that sells pond supplies, you can buy fish antibiotics. Again-good in a pinch.
I think if you vac seal them and keep them really cool they should last awhile...I don't know if it changes their composition or effectiveness to try freezing them-will have to look into that.

The other thing that we need to consider is WHICH antibiotics to order. As we know not all antibiotics are good for all infections. I think several different kinds are in order.
High on my list-I'm sure I am hacking the spellings on these Pencillin- Penicillin (sometimes abbreviated PCN or pen) is a group of antibiotics derived from Penicillium fungi.[1] They include penicillin G, procaine penicillin, benzathine penicillin, and penicillin V. Penicillin antibiotics are historically significant because they are the first drugs that were effective against many previously serious diseases such as syphilis and infections caused by staphylococci and streptococci. Penicillins are still widely used today, though many types of bacteria are now resistant. All penicillins are beta-lactam antibiotics and are used in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible, usually Gram-positive, organisms.
Cipro-Ciprofloxacin is used to treat or prevent certain infections caused by bacteria. Ciprofloxacin is also used to treat or prevent anthrax (a serious infection that may be spread on purpose as part of a bioterror attack) in people who may have been exposed to anthrax germs in the air. Ciprofloxacin extended-release (long-acting) tablets are used only to treat certain types of urinary tract infections. Ciprofloxacin is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by killing bacteria that cause infections. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. azithromycin-Azithromycin is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis; pneumonia; sexually transmitted diseases (STD); and infections of the ears, lungs, skin, and throat.
Azithromycin is in a class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
Anyone else recommend one?

Hi, This is Trudy on Andy's log in (he was longed in and my computer is down.....and I don't remember my password...it's on my computer). Have any of you thought of using herbs as antibodics? Or for other illnesses? I have made an antibotic using echinacea, astragulus root and elderberries in vodka. We have used it for broncitus and sinus infections. We use elderberries to make elderberry syrup to fight germs....actually it is elderberries, fresh ginger, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and water, simmer on the stove for a little while, drain and then add about half cup local raw honey (ok, so any honey will be fine LOL). We take a tablespoon a day when we are healthy, up to a tablespoon and hour if you are sick. We also use rosehips (vitamin C), echinacea, peppermint, slippery elm, slippy elm, fever few, marshmellow root, raspberry leaf, burdock root, elecampane, dandelion root, licore, lemon balm, lemon grass, arnica (do not take internally), comfrey, nettles, st. Johns Wort, and I am sure there are a few others in the cabinet that I can't think of right now. I am really just learning about them and starting to use them. Just thought I would pass on the info. Oh, I am starting to learn about Essential oils too. The older I get the less I like dr's. It is amazing most of them can get themselves dressed in the morning. LOL.

Hi Trudy! Yeah, I have been reading up on all natural treatments for infections too-those would definitely be used FIRST. But if a situation got out of control, I would feel better using an actual medicine. Been looking into raw honey for wounds and sugar too- There has been great promise using honey to treat MRSA-

Trudy, learning all that would be wonderful,(and I will, someday- I need books!) but as you may have noticed, I'm scatter- brained to the Nth degree. For a moosh mind, a pill would be fairly easy to outsmart. I think the fish antibiotics in this case would suit for certain things, although much research needs to be done. This would by- pass the doctors, which doesnt bother me much, at $100 a visit....
Julie, several articles have stated that vacuum sealing and freezing makes them last for a LONG time. Dunno for sure, but for 15 bucks / 100, be good to have on hand. Ampacylin, amoxacylin(sp?).....there are many many more, I assume. Lots to read up on, but I think I'll get 100 just in case.

That's a good one Rick-Amoxicillin can be tolerated by most young people and it is good for ear infections etc. It has to be refrigerated in the suspension form too so I am sure it would be fine frozen. My feed and grain store has tetracycline-for the chickens you know

I guess I have had to many issues with dr's and med's and sinus infections. Having to convince the dr or office staff when the dr is out that you really do have a sinus infection even thought you have not been sick as long as the textbook says you should be to have a sinus infection. Or having to come up with all the money for dr's visit/ urgent care visit, med's and going some place when you feel like crap and want to climb under a rock. We have also had to go thru several different rounds of med's to kill a sinus infection and plus....what the crap do they put in those pills anyway? I figure if they pull the good stuff from the herbs and put other crap with it and put it in a pill then why can't I just skip all the crap and keep some of my money. Ashley (our 22 year old daughter) has started having migraines this semester and our chiropractor is having her take fever few in capsules that he sells so he knows exactly how much she is getting every day. I have been growing fever few in my garden this year and had been telling her that she should take it for the headaches she was having (this was before we realized she was having migraines....poor kid has been having lots of migraines this summer (never had them before this year. Jake had one New Year's day....threw up and he was fine) We have found that Coke is working for her if she takes it right at the beginning. She is trying to see if Diet Coke will work as well....doesn't want to gain a ton of weight and someone say "Wow, you have gained weight" and she will respond "yeah, but at least I don't have a migraine" LOL. When Andy's Mom ended up at the cardiologist last month he told her to get healthy so she could get off all the drugs she is on, that they are all man made and not good for you. Just thought I would share.

Trudy-it's the caffeine in the coke that is helping her. I have a very good friend who gets migraines BAD. She gets an iced coffee. If the diet coke has caffeine it will probably help-but read the label-if it has aspartame in it for a sweetener-stay away-Anyway- If my friend's headache gets too bad a trip to the ER for a shot of demerol often helps a lot. The caffeine constricts the blood vessels in your head helping the headache.
Ashley is probably getting Migraines because she is a teenager going through puberty. Hormone changes in women can cause these problems-look at Michelle Bachman-there are also several other potential causes such as allergies or sensitivities to certain foods. Chocolate and nuts are huge foods to stay away from if you get Migraines-yeah I know-chocolate has caffeine in it so you think it would help-but it is on the list. Has she ever had allergy tests?
If she doesn't have allergies you might want to consider getting her hormone levels checked. If they are messed up, they can recommend soy products as they are heavy in natural Estrogen, or egads-they might want to put her on the pill. It might help her even out.

This is Andy.... We've had very good luck with the herbs as Trudy said. Many of them have antibiotic properties that are effective. It just takes time to learn what they are and how to use them because big med has effectively demonized anything they don't make and endorse. We've used these herbs to either cure an illness or stay healthy when others around us were sick. That said another source for antibiotics in a SHTF situation is the local feed store. From there it usually comes in injectible form and you administer by the 100 weight, ie. for every 100 lbs of the patient you give 1cc. We're doing everything we can to get away from big ag, big med, big gov... and if the S really does HTF stock piled meds are only going to last so long... We have to have alternatives, we can't go around licking cheese and eating shrooms

I have been looking for someone versed in the natural remedies and medicinal herbs to write a small column each month. Perhaps she would like to "learn" the rest of the readers along with her?

This is Trudy again. LOL. Wayne, I will have to think on that one a bit. Julie, Ashley is 22. She is getting ready to start (Lord willing) her last year of college and by this time next summer be a RN. Yep, I know if is the caffeine. Ashley is a coffee junky. I don't think it seems to help her when she has a migraine. She just told me that when her stomach is upset (the on set of the migraine) she can't stand the thought of drinking the coffee. She also said that the Diet Coke (Ashley and I do drink Diet Coke) doesn't seem to help her as well as the Coke (she doesn't drink Coke any other time). Weird huh?

I totally agree that God- designed herbs and such are the way to go, long term. This was gonna be a discussion on the use and safety of 'animal meds.' Guess I aint the only scatter- brained one here, just the most I also know that the wrong herbs, or too much of this, that and the other thing, are sometimes worse than nothing. Heck, people spend lifetimes learning that stuff. Like I said, I need books. LOTS of books. Can you recommend a good starter book, Trudy?

Hi, I really like Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health. I also have Herbs for Home Treatment by Anna Newton and recently I got Herbal Medicine of the American Southwest by Charles Kane. I haven't done to much looking thru it yet. Pretty weird that the crap I beat out of our property has a reason for being around. I thought most the "good herbs" grew back east or I had to grow them in my garden. Did you know that you can put herbs in capsules? If any of you know of someone who places group orders (a wholesale order is 250.00) with Frontier Natural Food Co-op you get awesome prices on things plus free shipping and no sales tax. It has tons of stuff in the catalog (way more then the website and half the price). They sell alot of the stuff you would find at like a health food type store or even some of it is sold at the store (I am thinking teas and spices and such).
