Anyone else notice the rapidly increasing prices?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I went to the closest grocery store today for the first time in 3 wks, and this is just a SAMPLING of the newest prices:
Zuchinni squash ****** $1.99/lb
yellow squash - * * * * $2.65/POUND + tax
Cauliflower- * * * * * * * *$ 3.20/HEAD + tax
very yellowy sour-tasting green grapes - * $ 2.99/POUND
5# bag of shredded generic mild cheddar cheese = $25.79! (+ tax!)
12 pack coke- * * * * * *$4.49 + tax
1 can store-brand corn: $1.49 + tax
I thought with it being summer, that fresh produce would be cheaper. It's NOT! The ONLY thing I could find cheap was a loss leader of carrots on sale 2# pkg for $0.79, and green cabbage for $0.39/lb. I bought several to can up tomorrow.

You guys have to pay tax on food? That's horrible! Yup - it's Colorado! Rocky Mt. High and a governor who hasn't met a tax he doesn't love!

Pat we have noticed price increases in olive oil, sugar, generic chocolate chips, honey and other items. Can't think of them all right now.

We have started buying Olive Oil at Ollies, last was an imported Extra Virgin for $5.89 for 32oz. High quality oil, cheap.

I finally found canned pumpkin yesterday. The display was already decimated as there were only a few cans left. 2.69 per can. Geesh! I did buy just a few but I was annoyed at the price. Hopefully Walmart will get theirs in soon.

When you first posted about that, I went and checked the cupboard, I have two cans in there from last year, so I can wait to see a sale.

I have to say that this summer all of the produce here was a lot higher then last year.
Bad part was that the quality didn't warrant higher prices, it was some of the worse, across the board, that 've ever seen and I was a produce broker for years. They have to have a certain number of line items and they just get what they can but even the local stuff was dried out and scarred up.
Some grocers have taken out those hydrating misters over the displays to save money so that's probably one reason.
LOL - The walmart by me had a few birds living in the produce section overhead lights for awhile - that was interesting... a few splatters here & there >>> DUCK & cover !! I know Wayne, extra protein!!!

BROWN SUGAR - $2.00 a pound "on-sale" YIKES OMG!!
I can't believe that! White sugar is about .43 a lb so what's the deal? I can make my own brown sugar using molasses and white sugar - but this stinks.
Hopefully when holiday baking supplies go on sale they willl get back down in price and "really be on-sale. I paid $2 for 3 /1lb bags last spring... ughhhh

We made our semi annual trip to COSTCO in North Carolina today to stock up for the winter. I get bulk walnuts, some spices, bulk baking soda and lots of paper goods and soaps and such. One treat I always used to get in WA was pine nuts at COSTCO - would get a big bag of them for about 10.00. Found them today - a much smaller bag for $30.00!!!!! No more pine nuts - dang! Prices overall were higher but for what we go there for still cheaper than buying at the store even with the gas included to get there and back. That takes care of shopping until April - yeah!
