I am trying two new ways to get organic matter into the new gardens. Well, actually three. ;-)
1. I am trying the Jerry Baker trick of getting an old blender and for all of the kitchen scraps loading the blender, adding water and a tablespoon of epson salts, blending it and pouring it on the garden areas.
2. I had a DVD of a woman in Washington who made a living off of one greenhouse of salad greens that she rotated through and supplied the local school lunch program. She never needed any inputs. The old lettuce leaves and any weeds were put in a 5 gallon bucket of water and left to rot into slime. Then she poured that into the garden before planting. ;-) Since we have scored a field full of old pickle barrels I have the perfect use for one or two of them.
3. found a source for the round hay bails cheap and delivered! Laid in wait for a guy to come out to his truck who had parked a load in a local parking lot. ;-) Flagged him down and found out indeed he does sell and deliver those bails - had 4 farms all around us! YEAH! Have 5 bails ready for spring, but want to get 5 more. ;-)

These are all excellent ideas. Adding to my soil is huge on my list of must do's. Only being the 2nd year for my vegi garden area I need to do the same. I like all of your ideas-thanks!

Great ideas, I'm working on a new area right now and am going to include the things mentioned.
