Fair question and that used to be "just me" too. I went many years without insurance. The problem is, and what most don't understand is, with the gas BS in this area. There are certain evil people who, when they see a property like mine setting next to a couple of well pads, they automatically think to themselves this is my opportunity to "cash in" so they trespass and "get hurt" or whatever their little bottom feeding, low life, no good, scumbag, worthless mind can come up with to take advantage!!! Which explains why insurance companies won't go there!!!!!!!! This is the reality of it all! While I'm probably not as susceptible as my neighbors who have several hundred acres, I'm right up against the well pads with a lot of road frontage, so it's still a risk. Make sense? What an evil world we live in!!! ~Martin

ROUGH DAY today! I got called to substitute for an American Government teacher. But I lucked out. The topic today was something I was actually able to speak intelligently on, the Anti-Federalist resistance to the ratification of the original constitution, the one they wrote BEFORE the Bill of Rights was added. Great timing because every kid in the classes will be eligible to vote next year. But still a really rough teach for someone like me. Why? Do you have any idea how hard it was to teach this subject and NOT interject my own political beliefs, which is illegal by the way. On the other hand, it was fascinating to see the parallels between then and now. I was able to draw parallels between the Anti-Federalists, the Confederacy, the Tea Party, the Libertarians, and the "Occupation" movement. To be honest, I'm not sure I stayed completely legal, but I think I did. I never indicated my personal beliefs or who I would support. But I made sure those kids understood that the very things the Anti-Federalists were afraid of and resisted back then are still things to be feared and resisted today. Well, I'm glad you spoke your mind as much as possible. I could never keep my personal beliefs a secret! LOL ~Martin

Well, I'm glad you spoke your mind as much as possible. I could never keep my personal beliefs a secret! LOL ~Martin That's a lesson I learned real well during my DT. I was teaching a lesson about ZPG and population control. Using real examples from history and the current Chinese efforts I dreamed up a fictitious "UN sponsored" population control "law" that was pretty severe. In my presentation I made the comment that, "that bimbo Hillary Clinton is supporting this law on your behalf at the United Nations". BOY did I get the point across! The kids were in a complete uproar over this violation of their rights, yada, yada, yada. But it was after the class ended that the fireworks really started. My host teacher went off on me like I was a red-headed bastard step-child. She went on about how if the wrong parent got wind of that it could keep me from getting licensed, I could get sued, etc. "We, as teachers, can NEVER present our own personal beliefs in a lesson!" She even pulled up bulletins showing me one particular case. It's not even LEGAL to mention Creationism or talk about it in class. So if I really want to teach, I have to learn to suppress my personal opinions. I try like crazy to present BOTH sides of an argument, but I can not take a stand myself. And yes, the tactic of "freedom of speech" has been tried. It's similar to the idea that inmates or kids in their late teens can not, under any circumstances be considered to have "consensual sex" with an officer or a teacher. The officer or teacher is in an "inherent position of authority" and the victim cannot help but feel compelled to comply. Don't agree with it completely, but that's the current interpretation of the law.

Um, no, it doesn't make any sense to me. But then again I don't think that way. Guess I don't have to worry about ever doing jury duty. No plaintiff lawyer in his right mind would ever take me. In your case, I'd save the rejection letters from the insurance companies. Then when the lowlifes take you to court you can pull out the letters and demonstrate that you made a "good faith effort" to insure the property but nobody would touch it. It's easy to arm-chair quarterback this. I'm sure it's not so easy in your world, especially in light of all you've already gone through the last year.

Hi old friends, just dropped in to say hello and that I miss the good times I had here. Things have setteled down conciderably for me. I have a really nice raised bed garden that is just coming on really well with all kinds of veggies, thanks to the help from all you guys. Still have lots to learn, but I've come quite a ways from square one. Haven't even had i'net service until just a few days ago, but have a hookup now. The garden takes up most of my time so I won't spend as much on here.
I hope all is well with those left here. Laurie's recovery really makes me happy. Sad to see how many have drifted away, but I'd like to drop in when I can and say hello. Hope ~Mart comes back.
Take care guys, I do miss the "good old days" here, rr

Welcome back Rick. Of course, what most don't realize is that NOW is peak gardening season for you, and you're pretty much finished by Memorial Day, just as we're starting to get into it full swing.
Well, I finally got around to running that new supply wire out to the yard shed. Next pay day I will replace the extension cord from the shed to the hen house with a dedicated line. According to my brother, the electrician one, I should be able to have a couple of outlets, the water heater, and the laying light with plenty of power to spare. The outlets are actually only so I can run power tools down at the back edge of the property without all the extension cords.
Found out that the 12' tall 4x4 that anchors my wiring above the shed is cracked and broken. That gets replaced this payday too. Then I'll have two 30A circuits available in the shed. One for the hens and one for my "garage". Should be plenty, until I get around to building the real garage.

I would think two 30Amp circuits should be plenty. You can power a lot of items on 30 amps.

I have a 30 Amp circuit in my shop, it does everything I need... including run a nice 220 arc welder.
