It's cold, the temp is 34 degrees and dropping. The rain has been happening since about 5:00 and there's no sign of it letting up. It might end up getting down into the 20's overnight. Tomorrow Jake and I are going to finish up his hat rack. I'll post pictures when it's done. I also have a pen in the works that I'll post pic of. Looks like I'm gonna need to dust off the heater for the shop.

Yeah, guess I have to reel up the hose and start carrying water down to the chickens twice a day now. Bucket of water on the deck is frozen over. Really have to figure out what the heck is wrong with my electric out to the shed so I can plug in the water heater base and only have to carry water once a day.
Cindy hasn't had to cook in a week. I made her turkey croquettes on Monday, spaghetti and meatballs on Tuesday, Wednesday we hit the Chinese buffet no the way back from WW's, Thursday was another batch of croquettes (by request), and Friday was "restaurant night" cleaning out the leftovers. Saturday was total junk food night. I could get into this cooking thing, IF I didn't get halfway through a recipe and find I'm missing an ingredient or spices. Today I'm going to plan a menu for the next week and go pick up all of the missing ingredients tomorrow. Then I'll be able to cook without that stress. And I've got at least three heart-healthy WW's friendly cookbooks to search through.
I have set a serious goal for myself. We gave the kids our old dining room set when they got their own apartment (about 4 years ago) and I haven't gotten around to replacing it. So I am going to go into the workshop and build us an oak dining table, hopefully before Christmas.

I love building stuff in the shop, since starting the paper, I don't get down there much at all, I was really digging being able to build things we could use. Now it is back to the back burner. On a bright note we have sold over 120 trees so far! I have enough wreaths, but I am dreading having to go back after more trees. Pain, lots of pain....I am getting too old for this $hit.

26 degrees outside inside when I woke up it was 59 in the house. I broke down, checked the pilot light to make sure it was on and turned the heater on. Not bad that I didn't have to turn the heat on until December 5th.

Andy, my electronic thermostat still has the heat in the OFF position. I love wood!

I am SO-O-O jealous,[/b] of both of you. I turned my thermostat up to 65 on October 1st, and I've been supplementing with kerosene during chilly periods, which is usually evening once Cindy gets home. So from 6pm to 10pm and ALL DAY on weekends. I can't wait for the tax return so we can have a wood burner installed!
Tonight's supper will be chicken fajitas, from scratch. Right now I am on my way to the basement. I have GOT to figure out why I don't have full electricity to the hen house. I need that heater plate for the water.

One day I hope to have a wood burning stove. I just don't have the room with four of us in the house. Off to milk then to work.

I can't complain, it's been one of the mildest autumns that I can remember. Our natural gas bill for November was only $38...that covers the water heater, cook stove and furnace. $16 of that is the monthly service charge, so our NG usage has been very low so far this year. The in-laws bought us a MagicJack Plus. I must admit that I thought it was a gimmick, but I'm incredibly impressed with it. It's just like having a real land line. After setup it plugs into the router, no need to keep it connected to the PC. Plug in a regular telephone and start gabbin'!!! LOL The best part is it didn't cost us a dime! ~Martin

Gotta love free stuff!!!
This morning it is 26 again it's still dark outside so it may drop a few more degrees. We didn't work in the shop last night. So we will probably get out there tonight to finish up Jake's project.

The construction at the tree lot is over now until after Christmas, thank God. The pavilion looks great and it will allow us to now leave the trees that are left in place until they sell. I will get pics later. Sales are still strong, and I believe I could go get another load, but I am not going to, everything aches, and I do not want to risk back problems again, so when this load is gone we are finished!

Thanks Andy, I probably did not operate this to maximum profit this year, but I have been out of it for ten years, so I wanted to ease in to see how this market reacted to the system that we employed in NH. It worked great, next year will be a money maker, I am happy that this year was a good experiment rather than finding out I couldn't do it any more.

I'm glad to hear it's working out good for you. I wish we had the room for a real tree here.

Well, believe it or not, today I dug what was left of the potato crop, about 30 pounds I would guess. I wanted to leave then in the ground as long as possible to toughen up the skins good because I planted them so late. I tried one to make sure they didn't turn sweet because of the cold...it was perfectly fine! I'm going to give them to the neighbors because I can only eat just a tiny amount because of my blood sugar issues.
