So I got these taters at a good price, 20c# and when I dehydrated the first batch I skipped a step and had 9 trays of black potatoes. Told you about that on the dehydrating board. So while drying some more I pulled 2 taters out and put them in the toaster oven to bake for dinner. I've done this lots of times with no problem but that was normal potatoes not part of the cursed 50lbs I just bought. Anyway about 40min after I put these in the toaster oven I hear a POP. I look at the potatoes and one of them is sitting on the shelf the other one left the skin on the shelf and blew the potato all over the inside of the over. I've seen this in a microwave but never in a toaster oven. I check the other potato and it was way over done. So I get 2 more potatoes. I set the temp on the oven th 350, last time was 375, set the time for 40 min, last time 1hr. After 30min I check the potatoes, Not done. I let them cook some more. About 10min later I hear a POP. I check the potatoes and one tater in on the shelf perfectly cooked. Next to it is a empty potato skin. Next to the skin is a perfectly cooked potato on the rack minus the skin. Weird. No wonder they were cheap. Wish me luck, only 35lbs to go.

LMAO, you have luck just like me. And believe me, I'm laughing with you, not at you. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Sometimes being frugal can be mighty expensive! Good luck Walt....Do they boil up okay? And would tinfoil contain the explosion, or turn it into a grenade? Also, maybe try jabbing them with a knife or fork first. Just thinkin with my fingies here....

Yeah Rick these things boil ok for drying. I poked holes in them but the evil things got a mind of their own. I think I'll get some of the expensive non-exploding baking potatoes for baking and just dehydrate these cheap ones. Better yet I might just save them in case TEOTWAWKI really happens and when the food police come to confiscate my food I'll just give them the exploding potatoes. I'll wrap them in foil for added shrapnel.

;D Just pull the pin and throw it at 'em Walt ! Those things MUST be fragmentation g'nades ! LOL ! That's awful. Combat taters ? Full contact mebe ? Martial taters... Kung foo tubers ? Like Rick said Walt, not laughing at, but with.

Well I've been dehydrating these potatoes for a while and I finally got around to trying them. I used a sauce recipe I found on the internet that made a full quart jar of dry mix and used the directions that were with the sauce recipe and they came out great. Well just as great as the boxed scalloped potato mix you can buy. I love my dehydrator.
