Has anyone tried the tattler lids? I am really getting fed up with Kerr and Ball lids not sealing in the pressure canner. I know the Tattlers lids are expensive but I think the cost would be well worth it in the long run. I plan to can until the day they lay me in the ground. I know Lehman's sells lids that are supposedly better. Anyone have a source for GOOD canning lids?

You can buy direct from tattler. I've never heard a bad thing about them. I was under the impression that loehmans lids were tattler, slthough it doesnt say so, they look identical. My bro and me are going to order a couple cases shortly, with extra rings. This past season was my first full seadon canning, and i bet we spent $500 on jars, lids and rings. Does bother me to get a single use out of anything snd just toss it. Apparently tattler has bulk prices. I hope so.

I am going to wait on those, UGA does not advise that they are safe to use, besides, I can get the metal lids very cheap, under .10 cents for regular mouth, and, I like to write on the lids with a sharpie. I am going to stick with the single use metal ones, something about trusting food for many years with a plastic lid that doesn't seem real advisable to me anyway.

I can get lids for less than 10 cents too, but they are just not working well when I use my pressure canner. I have been canning for a long time so I don't think it is that I don't know how. It seems the the last couple of years the lids have gotten thinner and don't seal as well. I do know that my Mom used Tattler like lids when I was young, kept them forever. They went missing after my Mom died and my Dad remarried. I do trust them, and I am plannig to order some. Rick the Tattler web site has all the prices, the more you buy the better the price. I really like to use things more than once also, as in forever!!! And when TSHTF lids may be hard to come by or not available at all.

If the gov. tells me i shouldnt use them, I'm gonna buy twice what i need. I can write on a label or tape if i have to. Def. gonna get all i can. The rubber gasket makes the seal. Im new at canning, but i have some pickles here that mom made maybe 5 years ago, i opened one last spring, and they are thicker feeling, esp. the gasket doohinkus.

I think that is why so many of the lids I am buying now fail. They work ok in the water bath, but the canner is another story. They just aren't as good as they used to be. In the past I would can and usually only had 2-3 jars not seal all year. I canned 27 pints of ham this week and had to recan 8, 2 never did seal, finally made scalloped potatoes and ham with them. Totall unacceptable,so I am gong with the Tattler lids.

I guess I have been lucky, I have only had 1 failure in the last two years, maybe a bad lot went to your area?

Well I got most of my last years lids from the Air Force comm. in Minot. My daughter's boyfriend gets them for me and we can things for him. I don't know if that was the problem or not, they packages looked identical to the ones in the store. I am going to order some from Leahmans, the ones they have aren't made by Ball of Kerr. I will try them this winter and see if they work better before I do my major canning this summer.

I can't figure out what the problem could be, but I know I would be some upset if I had that many failures, it is a lot of work to have to repeat. I use mostly Ball, but I also like Golden Harvest lids, have had zero problems with them, and I know others turn their nose up at them because the Dollar Store carries them, but so far every one has been fine.

Anyone have a source for GOOD canning lids? I get mine for the most part at the Amish Store here, last I checked, regular mouth lids were $7.65 per 100 and wide mouth were like $10.65 per 100 I will be there this Thursday to deliver papers and will check again. You probably saw their ad in the paper. Peight's Country Store.

I've played around a bit with the Tattler lids and I like them. I gave a couple to a friend who does a lot of canning, and he's used one lid and gasket EIGHT times so far! I'd like to get a big order of these. With the proper care they'd last a lifetime.

Wayne, do you know if Peight's does mail orders. I would rather buy from someone like that than a big company. If you could ask them and let me know I would really appreciate it.

Isnt golden harvest Chinese made? Thought I read that somewhere.... In the long run I think tattler would be a good investment, esp. in a shtf scenario. I'm chuckin 20 a week away for an order with my bro.

I am going to order some too. Just makes sense to me to be able to reuse them. They are pricey, I'm saving up for them , hope to be able to order enough to do one season of canning.
