Yup, that's what I was 'gonna do until I found the (they call it composit, but it's really just) PLASTIC for cheeep. The long ole barrel is ugggly no doubt, but I wanna be real sure before I cut mine off. Every inch cut off relates to a loss in feets per second, which relates to feets in trajectory, and that crown is super critical too. Some don't care about that but I do. There is a new paint specifically made for plastic, forgot which brand but I'm seriously concidering sanding off the monte carlo cheek rest (it's on the wrong side ) and mebe cutting off that crooked forend too, and painting mine. Can't even put the elastic cartridge band on there, have it now on the wrong side. Here's something new and interesting you might someday be interested in too. www.camodipkit.com/Almost forgot, there are some super strong retaining bolts to hold her together too, for I think 12 rubles. Wow, 6 bucks apiece...ca-ching ! ; One of mine is slightly bent.

After working in the gardens all morning, plus farm chores, i made a decision. I took the newest toy to my friends and ran 50 rounds through it. Quite impressed. I shot at both 50 & 100 yards. At 100 i hit an index card 3 outta 4 times. 3" groups at 50. For open sights, it was great. I think i found a new lifelong friend. I will order a fiting pin with a spring as these are notorious for slam fires. This pin floats. A clean gun shouldnt be a problem anyway. I'm off to swat flies and water the greenhouse.

Rick, the smell, hugging it with a nice cheek weld, a slow gentle squeeze, and I was in love. I was shocked at how well we did together on our first hot date. I'm going to wstch some vids on take fown, then give her a good scrubbing. The model 66 reeeevolva did excellent as well with.38+P's. I'll take a pic of the targets we use, and post it. Really made my week way betteh, just that 1 hour on the trigger.

Just spoke with my friend i help out when needed. He found 5,000 round cases (10 bricks) of .22 blazer RN ammo at cost for 138 + tax. I was paying that 6 years ago. Good enough for plinking and bartering. I just gotta work for it being cutman for a fun filled day of clapboard siding. That, i can do! Have i told you that i LOVE bartering?

I believe someone is looking out for me. I realized that I'd never be what you'd call 'Financially Secure', but I always come across these bartering deals with blessed frequency. For the record, this ammo is on the low end of exceptable. Maybe 4 near each other, then a sinker, 6 or 8" below the others. With muffs, you can hear it, too. KA- PEW! KA- PEW! ka- pew? Its all good though, i save the Ely, Colibri, and Wolf match extra for when its time to get serious. Like when i get to shoot with friends and money is on the line. And we all know how i hate to waste any! I'm about the only one that shoots a semi .22. Most shoot fancy bolt guns for money shots. I dont have the scratch to spend on a once or twice a year shooter, all my honeys get used. Lol.

Well, took the .30-30 Golden Boy to the range Wednesday. It's been at least 21 years since I shot a rifle that actually kicked. Not an entirely unpleasant sensation. Lot's of oohs and aahs from the guys as it is indeed a handsome rifle.
At 50 yards, with a SIMPLE iron sights (buckhorn rear and bead front) I was able to get all three round inside a 6" paper plate. At 100 yards I was able to get them all inside a 9" paper plate. I'm sure I could do better with a sling or bi-pod and a scope, but that's not what this rifle is supposed to be about. This is supposed to be a PA deep-woods deer rifle and I "think" it will do passable well at that. Of course, since I've never hunted deer successfully that remains to be seen. Once again, I can't say enough good things about how smooth the action is on this rifle or how well I was treated by the company. Looking for a lever action? BUY A HENRY!!
Meanwhile, the Ruger 10-22 was putting 5 shot groups inside of 1½" at 50 yards, and inside that 6" paper plate at 100 yards. Again, I'm fairly certain I could tighten those groups with a bi-pod or rest. I'm debating a bi-pod versus a bean bag for the Ruger, since that is strictly a range/accuracy rifle. Can't use it to hunt in PA. Guess I'll have to buy a Henry .22 cal Golden Boy for that.

Theres all kinds of hunting you could do with a .22, if you wanted. I hunt wabbits while snowshoeing, but squirrels and woodchuck, etc. If your into it. Gonna guess the .30- .30 is the most popular deer round in the US. Buy some hornady lever revolutions if you havent already. You will love them. I try to zero all my rifles from a rest of some sort, then when i get out in the woods, i know if i were to miss it would be me and not the gun. Sounds like a nice weepon you have there.
