I am only planting half the tomatoes I did this year. I will grow more beans and beets. I had a hard time with cucumber and zucs because of where I moved them this year, they will go back to the area they were in before. Other than that, I am very happy with the results this season.

The 'A' in USDA stands for Aggravation. I do my own things by what I experience that season. This year it was squash bugs and vine borers. Crop rotation, and feeding my free range hens in the fall gardens takes care of most critters. Them Guniea (?) hens are bug eating machines. 2 years of a tick free jack russel, too. I bed some plnts with straw covered with a 5 gal. Pail and a rock. And they live thru the winter, usually. I also mulch with grass clippings. If you dont, try it, you'll like it. Learned it from reading Joel Salatin. He's one smart bast....guy.

Wayne - are you sure you only want half the tomatoes you did this year? LOL Reading about your love/hate thing with those this summer was great! So I gotta ask, because I worked for farms for years that had problems with the zukes and cukes all the time - what went wrong? Why do you think it was location? Did you get sickly plants or what? Disease that eats the roots and leaves of those buggers will stay in the ground till doomsday... also they suck all the nutrients out given the chance and they put nothing back. At one farm the fertilizer people and soil testers all came out and did their thing and never could figure out what caused crop failure with those guys so the farm ended up dropping the lines. Just curious.
