Homemade Laundry Products
After you have made your cleaning products in and around the sink area, swab with a little white vinegar to get rid of any soap residue - my kitchen has never shined so much!
Regular Liquid Laundry Detergent
1 bar of soap - grated
(I use Ivory but any cheap bar soap works)
2 cups baking soda
1 gallon hot water
Put the grated soap into a medium size saucepan; add enough of the water to cover the flakes. Turn to medium heat and melt the soap (occasionally not all of the soap will melt, but that’s okay). In a larger saucepan – ½ gallon of the water and the baking soda – stir and dissolve the baking soda on medium heat. Pour the dissolved soap into the soda water and stir.
Add the remaining water. Allow to cool and then pour into containers. Use ¼ cup for light loads; use ½ cup for heavier loads. Add a little water when the liquid gets dense and shake before each use. Makes approx. 1 gallon.
Heavy Duty liquid laundry detergent.
2 bars soap (grated)
2 cups baking soda
2 cups borax
2 cups oxy clean
1 cup degreaser
Put the grated soap in lg. saucepan with 6 cups water & heat on med. low heat stirring occasionally, until melted. (It foams) I then take mine to the sink to finish mixing. Add soda, borax, & oxy clean slowly & stir till well mixed & dissolved, add degreaser & stir add pectin & stir. In 5 gal bucket Put 1-quart hot water, pour in soap mix & stir well. Add 1.5 gal. Water & stir again well. Let set 24 hours in bucket & stir occasionally. Keep it stored in 5-gal bucket.
Stain Remover – Pre Treater
Put a small amount of either laundry detergent in a small bottle to pre-treat.
Fabric Softener
Use vinegar as a fabric softener. For a large load of wash, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the rinse dispenser. For smaller loads, decrease the amount accordingly.
Fabric Softener – make in advance method:
2 cups White vinegar
2 cups baking soda
4 cups water
In a bucket or large fabric softener bottle put baking soda, slowly pour in vinegar (Little at a time) & stir or shake. It will fizz a lot. Continue to add till all vinegar is mixed with soda. Then add water. Stir or shake. Put in your container of choice. Stir or shake before use. 1/4 cup in final rinse.
