Hi all, I'm very new to painting. I originally was planning on painting on canvas until a few people talked me out of it (because I mentioned I was desperate for longevity). They recommended I use aluminum composite panel instead, but didn't say what kind of panel is best. What is your opinion on this sort of panel: The support is a thin archival aluminum composite material on both sides with a polyethylene core. With an 1/8" (3mm) thickness, it's thin and easy to transport yet extremely sturdy. It is also waterproof, which is great for plein air painting.
If it is good, then I guess the next question is, what do I do with it? Do I gesso/PVA it? Or is there something better (longer lasting)? I have a mild paranoia that the aluminum is going to rust. Is it safe to use Liquin on such a panel? Thanks, Adam.

This place died. Very sad. Aluminum oxidizes. If it was clear- coated it wouldnt. That panel saw is a beaut. Dust collection hoses, too. Lol.
