If you read his opening editorial in the latest issue of Backwoods Home Magazine and compare it to my "Just Do It" article in last month's The Valley Newspaper you will understand why I'm asking. He used MY idea!

They do indeed get copies of The Valley at the Backwoods Home office, since we have been collaborating with them using John Silveira's editorials in exchange for ad space we have developed a good relationship with them. Who knows where this may lead?..

Cindy and I were a having a good laugh over that last night. When I first read it I thought it was coincidental. Then I read the article to Cindy and she immediately said, "Hey, that's sort of what you wrote." Too funny.

By the way Mike, an Amishman named Emanuel Peachey called me today and wanted to know if he could speak with the "Chicken Man". Is it ok to give him your number? If so, what is your number, I thought I had it, but I had to ask if it was ok anyway.

I suppose that would be ok. I know they don't use e-mail.
It's 570-772-9986. It would be nice if I knew what phone he'd be calling from as I usually don't answer calls from phones I don't recognize.
Why in the world does an Amishman want to talk to me about chickens? They're the surviving experts in this self-sufficiency stuff we are just trying to learn.

To them you are a hero, don't forget, they don't have the ability to get their words out to lots of people, you folks don't realize how big a following you all have with the readers. 717-935-2638 or 717-348-5286 were where he called from. I think he is from Belleville, so probably the 935 number. Our hairdressers 5 year old son is going to go bonkers over the Silkies story.

Too bad they drove so many great folks away, it could have led to many great things. I lost all respect for those people, they will never see a dime of my money.

Sorry you had a bad experience Martin. Our Amish writer Jeptha once told me that there are good and bad in all cultures, there is even bad Amish, but God watches who ya hang out with. Our mostly Nebraska Amish that live here are wonderful people.
