Yup, that's what my new dentist did too! I really liked him a lot. I do have one cavity that needs to be filled next week-but that's ok-no root canal or extractions James went to a service call the other day at a local horse farm. He had his first experience meeting an enormous Belgian draft horse. He is totally smitten I'm turning him into a farmer by the day lol.

Take him to check out a true Dutch Warmblood. That is what I want.

IF, and that's a BIG IF, we decide to get horse once we're on the homestead they are going to be Fjords or Halflingers. While I think that all the BIG drafts (Percherons, Belgians, and Clydes especially) are beautiful, I really can't see myself being able to suit one up in another 10 years.

Mike, do a google image search for Dutch Warmbloods they are the best of both worlds, they pull off BIG and Sleek at the same time.

I once told my Grandfather Fisher that I wanted work horses.....he literally told me that I was crazy. LOL But, he said that from the prespective of actually depending on workhorses.....he farmed a small dairy with horses until 1959 when he decided to sell the horses and buy 2 Case VAC tractors. He farmed with the tractors for several more years until my uncle took over the farm. My Grandparents led a very simple life, neither of them ever had a drivers license or drove a car. Anyway...I wouldn't overlook oxen...that's what my plan is now. Not only are they super cheap and relatively easy to train... if they act-up...they can spend the winter in the freezer....LOL ~Martin

Mules, a good riding mule that's also trained to pull. That's what I'm working toward, although both my kids want quarter horses.

Dutch warm bloods are very pretty-to me it's a cross between a thoroughbred and a morgan. We had a quarter horse Andy-those pictures of me as a kid on Facebook riding a horse was our quarter horse Birdie. My sister used to barrel race Too bad she was gate shy-and try getting her into a trailer, lol! I'll never forget that video on the News this winter of that Amish man pulling the tractor trailer out of a snow ditch with his team of draft horses. It was SO cool! We've been getting eggs almost every day but not every hen is laying yet. Beautiful dark gold yolks! Yummy! I've been letting them wander around in the back area by the vegi garden. They have been very happy digging for worms, lol. As soon as the fenced in area of the vegi garden is cleaned out for the season, I'll let them wander around in there.
