Andy, sounds like maybe crazy ole uncle Andy isn't so crazy anymore ehh? I have family members that used to say that about me too, but now they are slowly beginning to embrace the cause.
Mike, sorry about the accident, OUCH!! But I am glad you survived the Black Friday madness, I just plain will NOT go out into that herd mentality madness for anything, I can't stand being amongst the sheep. Check your email though, I got a fan mail and a phone call about you this week! ;D

My parents liked what we have done, but they're not in a position to copy it, neither of them can walk. Ditto for Trudy's grandma. My brother is an ass and went to the point of saying, 'There's no reason to prep, because if you do then your going to have to be prepared to shoot your neighbors to protect your preps. You haven't thought of that." I told him, that I have thought of that and if you look, I have fields of fire and shooting positions that put anybody coming to either of my doors doors in a crossfire.

Take heart, Andy. At least your kids will grow up knowing better. None of my family get it either, including my daughter. "Michael is still out there on the lunatic fringe" is pretty much the consensus.

YEAH...I am back! Finally got my password. Ok, so I was a little slow about that. Some one would have to do CPR on me if my brother in law ever "got it". He always takes the easiest path. He would rather someone else do all the work and he just comes along and enjoys the fruit of their labor. When I heard him talking to Andy on Thansgiving I popped in the conversation and told him.....we do have guns you know and if someone plan to come on my property and take something I will shoot them....no problem. For the life of me I don't get why he doen't understand that. Truly it is just his excuse for being lazy. Thankfully...yes, our kid "get it". My Mom and her husband "get it" too. They are members of an LDS church (we are not by the way...we go to a Christian church) and they have taught Andy and I things that they have learned from classes thru the LDS church. When Andy and I were interested in learning to grind wheat it was my Mom and Jim to taught so about the different kinds of wheat, what us done to their home for lunch where they used some of the wheat in dishes and gave us a big bag of wheat (25-50 lb bag) and ground some of it for us before we went home that day. My Mom also taught me last summer that you can "bake" on your grill. I don't communicate with my brother who lives a few miles from us so I have no idea where he stands on things but my brother who lives in Maryland.....nope, he isn't into any of the things we are. He doesn't say anything about it all whenever he come around. I think they think there will forever be restaurants (which they eat at all the time) and whatever else their little heart wants.

Of course all of those kinds of people will come to you for help when things get bad. We have the same problem, the flood at Lynn's parents house was a good example, they needed help within three days, no water, etc. And after it is all cleaned up, back to life as usual, they don't get it, but they don't try to tell us we are being silly either.

I've been doing this stuff since I read some of the doom and gloom in the Mother Earth News way back when I was a teen. I've heard it all. "It makes no sense to be frugal and try to save money, prepare, etc." Those kind of comments came mostly from friends, family wouldn't dare say such a thing to me! LOL Preparing is what has led to me being able to live off investments (albeit modestly) instead of being part of the rat race. I got 2 new guns last week. ~Martin

I was thinking about 'prepping' and as I've explained to my parents, my brother and several other folks, it wasn't that long ago in this country that gardens, back yard flocks, canning and preserving and putting up for the winter was a way of life for everyone. Our culture is currently one of instant gratification to the point of using credit to get that gratification. If I could Biblically divorce myself from society completely I would.
I don't apologize for my lifestyle, I won't criticize the way others choose to live, but people damn well won't tell me how to live!!

C'mon Martin, what are the two new additions? I'm considering another .22 rifle for the cabinet, either a Henry Golden Boy or a Henry AR-7. It's not like I need another .22, between the 10-22 Target and the old Mossberg Model B-42 I've got that caliber pretty well covered. And three handguns to match.
Actually, maybe I should get the Henry Golden Boy in a .357 instead. I don't have anything but revolvers in that caliber.

Nothing fancy, a Ruger 10/22 and a Heritage Arms Rough Rider Combo Revolver (22 Long Rifle and 22 Magnum). Interesting that you mention the Mossberg Model B-42, got one of those a few weeks ago. The better half's sister gave us a B-42 and a Boito single shot 12 gauge (the shotgun is definitely not fancy, a welcome addition anyway). ~Martin

My single shot 12 is an old H&R that I bought way back in 1984. Shortly after that I heard that they made a .30-06 single shot barrel that was a direct swap, a 2guns-in-1 deal. And I've been looking for one ever since.
The B-42 was my Dad's rifle, a gift when he turned 16. I was "loaned" this rifle when I turned 16. I hope someday to pass it on to my grandson, if he develops a respect for family heritage.

I am in the market for a new CCW piece, my PT100 is a little heavy and bulky, I am thinking Milenium Pro in .40. Same caliber, just a lighter smaller piece to lug around.

I've thought about getting a smaller CCW, then I remember the comfort of having a full size .45 in my hand and I decide not to.
