I made Mexican chicken corn chowder tonight-sooooo easy. Besides sounding good I thought it was interesting because it is made out of things from the pantry-well mostly.

I bought a food saver at a garudge sale for 10 bucks, like new. I paid around 70 for the seal a meal version at the Wonderful World of Sir Wally. And two weeks later they had a new shipment of food savers. I wasnt pissed of at all. Uhhuh. I think there 80 bucks or so on average. I cut my own bags from a roll, and i make them about 4" longer than needed. I cut them carefully when opening, and wash 'em out good. Some of mine are on 5 or 6 uses, and getting mighty short. Hot dog anyone? Its the only way to go for long term freezing, IMO. Thanks Rick. Sooo "food saver" is the one to get ? That is also good for preserving dehydrated goodies too right ? What say you Jules ?

I use mine for everything I want air tight storage for, but be sure when doing dehydrated food its COMPLETELY dried when packaged. If not it'll be a really cool science experiment. Weeeeeeeeeee..........

I've had both-Food Saver is the best.
The seal a meal only lasted a year before the motor died. With the Food Saver I even accidently vac. sealed flour into the motor and after blowing it out and banging it, it still works. I'm brutal with my stuff so it has to be built well to last. ;D
I also buy the rolls of bags-cheaper by a mile-Wally World here carries the economy box of three rolls. I will freeze no meat without it! I even vac seal rice, pasta, wheat etc in the bags and it has worked out fine.

I was feeling lazy so I pulled out a Qt. jar of the burger we canned with the onions, garlic, peppers and shroomies, and spooned it onto them Scoops corn tortilla chips. A spoon full of salsa and some shredded cheese. Made a whole cookie sheet full. No leftovers, again. lol. It was awesome, if not real mexicany. Another experiment that worked out good
Lynn has good taste in food. Parm. is one of my favorites, too. Right up there with steamers and lobstah. And garlic bread? Mmmmmmmmmm......

Sure! It actually was very good!
Ingredients
* 1 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces * 1/2 cup chopped onion * 1 clove garlic, minced * 3 tablespoons butter * 2 cubes chicken bouillon * 1 cup hot water * 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin * 2 cups half-and-half cream * 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese * 1 (14.75 ounce) can cream-style corn * 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles * 1 dash hot pepper sauce * 1 tomato, chopped * fresh cilantro sprigs, for garnish (optional)
Directions
1. In a Dutch oven, brown chicken, onion, and garlic in butter until chicken is no longer pink. 2. Dissolve the bouillon in hot water; Pour into Dutch oven, and season with cumin. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. 3. Stir in cream, cheese, corn, chilies, and hot pepper sauce. Cook, stirring frequently, until the cheese is melted. Stir in chopped tomato. Garnish with cilantro.
I let it cook a little longer than the directions on low so that the flavors combined. Very filling.
